Where Dominica is and how to get there!
Dominica is an island in the West Indies or the Eastern Caribbean. At 289.9 square miles she is one of the smallest nations in the world but still bigger than some of her Caribbean sisters. She is an island born out of volcanic epruption, and thus is a very mountainous. Most of the volcanic activity since then has remained domant over the years, except for what's known as the "Valley of Desolation" and the second largest Boiling lake in the world the extent of activity so far has been to bring the its' water to a rapid boil. A few times in the recent pass a volcano near the town of Soufriere showed signs of eventual but not imminent eruption thankfully there hasn't been any such disaster. Dominica is located between the two French Territories named Guadaloupe and Martinque sharing the North Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea (The Caribs gave the sea their name). Dominica is affectionately known as "The Nature Isle Of The Caribbean"! For her lush rainforest, amazing flora and founa, cascading waterfalls and beath taking under water life. Whale and Dolphin watching are a major tourist attraction here on the island and one of the main parts of tour packages offered by hotels and dive centers, as wells as snokeling and deep sea diving.
How do you get to Dominica?
First of all its important to note that Dominica doesn't have an International airport at this point although there are two smaller airports, getting there is considered part of the adventure. Also night life in Dominica is very timid when compared to most western countries some even say non-existent but in fact there is some sort of night life here while its true that most business offices are closed by 4pm eastern bars and some resturants are opened by then and stay open till the early morning hours especially Friday and Saturday. Depending on your preference you could take a walk down the sea wall called the bayfront or visit Simz's where a live jazz band usually plays or head to cellars for a little karaoke fun. There are a few night clubs which operate on weekends. So if you are looking for Las Vegas style Casinos then your are out of luck but there's still plenty to do here after sunset. The most active times on the island however are in Febuary which is the time of carnaval and during the country's independence celebration in November but the celebration begins in late October with the "World Creole Music Festival" since 1997 and is the count down to Novermber 3rd the actual independence day.
